LOCAL LOYALTY: Rise Biscuits & Donuts in Cameron Village

Rise Biscuits and Donuts in Cameron Village, greet their loyal customers every morning starting at 7am serving up their favorite donuts, sandwiches, salad and more until 2pm every day. Whether it's the local lawyer, realtor, neighbor or fellow merchant that stop by faithfully every day, Rise Biscuits and Donuts greet their customers each morning with locally-roasted coffee brewed just for Rise by Bean Traders in Durham, as well as an assortment of specialty donuts and biscuits. Being greeted by name each day and making that connection with a local business on a regular basis, they become like friends and that generally always makes for a better start to the day. Rise Cameron Village is fully committed to their customers. Starting in the very early hours of each morning, they make the biscuits and donuts daily, guaranteeing the freshest quality food for their customers.

The Donut and Specials menu changes monthly and seasonally at Rise Cameron Village. Rise features their everyday offerings (Old School, New School menu which you can read more from a previous post), but they are excited about the new Spring menu now available. This includes some great new specials for lunch like the TURKEY MANHATTAN with Swiss Cheese, Russian Dressing and House Made Slaw, THE CUBANO with Roast Pork Loin, Smoked Ham, Swiss Cheese, Pickles and Mustard, THE SAUCY WISCONSIN with Fried Chicken in Creamy Cheese Sauce with Cherry Sweet Piquant Peppers and Arugula and the SEARED RARE YELLOWFIN TUNA with Quick Pickled Watermelon Radishes and Cucumber Wasabi Mayo. I had The Saucy Wisconsin sandwich on a potato roll for lunch since I love arugula and wanted to taste the sweet peppers.

A pleasant surprise for me was to discover that Rise also has a salad on the menu. The new Spring Salad menu option with Baby Arugula, Roasted Red Peppers, Sliced Avocados, Quick Pickled Watermelon Radishes and Roasted Pistachios was delicious. I love the creative combination of these unique flavors and ingredients. You can add chicken or seared yellowfin tuna to spice up your salad. All are great grab and go lunch options. Additionally there are a couple tasty side offerings such as the Hashcake with Cheddar Cheese or try the Fried Green Tomatoes for a perfect compliment to your morning cup of coffee. There are so many toppings and side options you can pretty much make your own meal by adding a fried egg, pimento, avocado and more!

Rise is about more than just crave-worthy food. They are loyal and committed to their customers, employees, and the Raleigh community. I often see Rise Cameron Village at the monthly Creative Mornings events in downtown Raleigh, supporting the crowds with delicious free donuts at these early morning events. Rise is often involved in student events on the Centennial campus close by at NC State. Rise Cameron Village offers catering and is ideal for office meetings, parties, lunches and more.

Rise is also a creative and fun option for catering weddings and shower events! Something to keep in mind this Spring as we head into wedding and graduation season, because...who doesn't love a great biscuit or donut?

NORTH RALEIGH: New City Barbeque

Happy Monday, Raleigh!

In case you haven't heard, North Raleigh has a cool new barbeque restaurant! City Barbeque is located at 9434 Falls of Neuse Road, very close to the 540 interchange and next to the new Sprouts grocery store. City Barbeque features a fresh, modern interior and it's a nice, casual, fun place to grab a quick lunch with coworkers or dine with the whole family. There's plenty of seating for big groups inside and out on the patio, and lots of shareable food options. It's not just pulled pork, they offer brisket, turkey, pulled chicken and ribs as well.

And sides. The sides are amazing. We loved the green beans with bacon, the corn pudding, mac and cheese, potato salad and cornbread. We also sampled tasty baked beans with brisket, sweet vinegar slaw, and collards with pork. French fries, hush puppies and more are available. If you can't decide, you can order a sampler. Wash it all down with some classic old school bottled soda or fresh brewed iced tea & lemonade.

All of their meats are smoked on-site at each restaurant, hand rubbed with spices, and continually are rotating in the smokers morning and night to barbeque perfection. All the sides are prepared from scratch in the restaurant and made from fresh ingredients.

As we enter the time of year where there are lots of family get-togethers and celebrations as students graduate, weddings, showers, holidays and more, City Barbeque offers food to go in party packs, family packs, sandwich packs and more! Just call and pick up or they offer catering which is a great option for graduation parties. Also, if you are involved in school fundraising (like myself), they support the local community by offering fundraisers.

The place smelled amazing when we arrived and the service was great. Friendly staff helped us order a bunch of sides along with some ribs, chicken and pulled pork. I also had the More Cowbell sandwich with brisket, peppers, onions, smoked provolone and horseradish sauce on grilled Texas toast. And speaking of sauces, there's a whole range of sauces you can sample from the sauce bar. They're delicious and there's a nice range of flavors.

Make sure you try the banana pudding! Even if you don't typically do dessert, it's the best I've had.

I really like the outdoor seating that's available now that the weather is getting nice. And you don't have to rush, stick around and play corn hole if you like. It's a friendly, relaxed place to dine, serving up some great barbeque! Check it out soon!
