Burger Bach: New Zealand Gastro Pub in the heart of Durham

DURHAM NINTH STREET:  I had lunch last week at the New Zealand inspired Burger Bach, a Gastro Pub in Durham on Ninth Street near Duke University. Ninth Street is a lively neighborhood with lots of independently owned retail shops and plenty of food and drink options ranging from casual to elegant. Burger Bach – (pronounced batch) originally started in Richmond, Virginia is celebrating their one year anniversary of being in Durham. I was happy to sample some of their menu items. Their emphasis and focus is on quality FRESH food through better ingredients and preparation.

The ingredients are fresh not processed and everything is made and prepared in the restaurant for the day/week. They make all their own delicious specialty dipping sauces (there's many tasty options - blueberry BBQ was my favorite). The menu is focused and simple. Good seafood like fresh caught oysters, mussels and shrimp. Shareable hand cut fries and dipping sauces, nachos and guacamole and chips.  Salads are made fresh and of course amazing hand-pattied burgers made from New Zealand grass-fed beef and lamb, as well as chicken and black bean.

The price point is good and their is plenty of free parking available at the restaurant. Nice outdoor seating available even for larger groups.

NC craft beers dominate the taps and they hand craft some delicious specialty cocktails including a killer margarita in the raw.  Burger buns are sourced locally from Neomonde bakery nearby. And you wouldn't maybe expect this from a burger place but available after 4pm, their roasted oysters, mussels and shrimp are super fresh and delicious and pair nicely with a cold beverage.

If you haven't been to Burger Bach and love a great burger, fries and North Carolina beer, put them on your list to get to soon and enjoy a little taste of New Zealand in Durham.
