CARRYING THE RDU BATON

Yesterday, I got a turn at carrying the RDU Baton on Instagram! If you haven't heard of them or don't follow them already, RDU Baton is a collaborative photo project to show off the Triangle through the eyes of local residents every weekday. You don't have to be a professional photographer, just have a passion for where you live.

Anyone can sign up (there's a bit of a wait list so it will take a while to get your turn) but it's fun to share a bit of insight to life in every corner of the Triangle...Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and surrounding areas.

Good Morning! My name is Chana and I’m excited to hold the baton on this beautiful Tuesday morning! I love Instagram and all things local. I started my own account @raleighwhatsup to help inspire + bring more awareness to fabulous local businesses in Raleigh + the Triangle area. I am from VA, moved to Sydney Australia before landing in Raleigh 17 years ago. Raleigh has grown a lot over this last decade and I’m excited to showcase a small part of all the cool things happening here. ******** First stop! @solacoffee , one of my very favorite places to hang here in North Raleigh. Jeanne + John, the owners have done amazing things with Sola and the community ~ speaking of which today 50% of their revenue will go to Red Cross to help the cities affected by Hurricane Florence. One of my favorite places to spend time is the NCMA. We are unbelievably lucky to have this amazing art museum right here in #Raleigh. I have a degree in Architecture and I love art and history + I come here often to get inspired. I always discover something new either in the galleries or the museum art park. This gorgeous floral mural by Detroit-based artist @0uizi is a new addition to the East building. She also painted another mural in downtown Raleigh. Currently the Georgia O’Keeffe exhibit is on through January 20 + you don’t want to miss it! It’s stunning. One of my favorite things to do is SHOP local. @edgeofurge is one of the coolest shops in downtown #Raleigh. Eclectic + creative with a heart of gold. Currently they are selling #northfreakincarolina tee shirts that all profits go to @nourish_nc to help feed hungry kids in #WilmingtonNC + the need is even greater since #HurricaneFlorence. All that shopping can make you hungry + thirsty! One of our absolute favorite places to go in #downtownraleigh is @stateofbeernc ~ always a great tap list, bottle + can selection plus really great food! Today for lunch I’m treating myself to an apple + brie sandwich on @yellowdogbread and a light @trophybrewing #sessionipa since it’s so nice out today. Decided to take a stroll through the new Raleigh Union Station in the #raleighwarehousedistrict today. I love modern architecture + naturally lit spaces and this place is a great accomplishment for the city. It’s so hard to pick favorite spots in Raleigh! I have SO many + everyday cool new local businesses are opening up including @heirloombrewshop in the Dillon across from Union Station. My day job is doing social media + website design for local businesses + my passion is finding and sharing about cool things to do on my blog + social, in hopes of getting people out and supporting these hardworking businesses + having great experiences in their city. Today I had my first vacuum brewed pot of coffee + a jasmine infused brownie! Some nights I’m lucky enough to be invited to new menu tastings. Tonight was amazing as we got to DINE on some of Vidrio’s new Fall menu plates. This roasted beet salad was so good. The housemade papardelle bolognese dish was outstanding. The restaurant is super gorgeous and the menu is family style. Look for more details about this dinner on my blog soon. 😉 I also love meeting other foodies/friends at these fun events.
