GET TO KNOW LOCAL: Summertime Lunching at Tazza Kitchen in Cameron Village

Summer is upon us and casual lunches with friends is definitely one of the pleasures of warmer weather.  Raleigh is fortunate to have many places to dine outside for lunch. But, one of my favorite spots for dining this Summer, has to be Tazza Kitchen in Cameron Village. Tazza Kitchen is a hidden gem. Nestled in the back side of Cameron Village near The Fresh Market, you will enjoy one of the best meals in downtown Raleigh.

For some reason I did not realize until recently that they were now offering lunch as well as dinner during the week. Tazza Kitchen opened a few years ago, and we LOVE having dinner and drinks there. I always secretly hoped they'd offer lunch, and last Fall they started offering lunch hours. I am thrilled to put lunch at Tazza back on people's radars!! Now with the weather being nice they have tables outside as well as a big window that opens up to view the sidewalk so you can dine inside and still enjoy the lovely summer weather and skip the heat.

The food at Tazza is inspired by the owner's trips to southern Italy and Baja California and the dishes and ingredients from those experiences influence the seasonal menu. Tazza Kitchen's menu highlights ingredients sourced from dozens of farmers and food artisans (check out their list of local partners), and the kitchen features a large wood-fired oven. The name, “TA” for taco, “ZZA” for pizza, was created by a group of friends in Richmond who set out to build an inspiring new place to eat and now they have Cameron Village and Cary locations in NC.

I had only been to Tazza for dinner until recently for my birthday lunch and now that they offer lunch service (except Monday), I am excited to get back there often to enjoy more of their fantastic wood-fired pizza, amazing guacamole and chips and delicious tacos, salads and sandwiches. I tried the chicken tortilla soup last week and was amazed at the number of ingredients and flavor packed into that soup! It was smokey with a little spicy kick and SO GOOD! I recommend it as a side with a sandwich. The pressed chicken sandwich that I had featured a nice smokey flavor too.

When you dine at Tazza Kitchen, you almost feel like you've taken a little trip from Raleigh to Baja or southern Italy. They have spent time on the interior of the restaurant to create a cool contemporary atmosphere whether you are dining at a table or having a cocktail at the bar. It's dark wood interior, mix of succulent planters, textured walls, stunning concrete bar, comfortable bar seats, beautiful photos from their trips on the wall and good music, all of it makes you feel like you have escaped the everyday rush and taken a journey elsewhere for a bit.

Along with the opportunity for long lunches and brunch on Sunday, Tazza Kitchen in Cameron Village is also now offering the ability to order online and come in and pick up food to go! This is a great way to guarantee an easy and delicious no fuss lunch or dinner at home!

Gluten Free options are available as well and marked on the menu.

It's important to eat local, support the local community and take some time to get to know the amazing folks who put their time and effort, sweat, tears and passion into creating cool dining experiences for us here in Raleigh. I highly suggest putting Tazza Kitchen on your radar for Summer dining soon!!
