TerraVita Food + Drink Festival Oct 8-10

This year, TERRAVITA Food + Drink Festival celebrates its sixth event (started in 2010) bringing together the area's top chefs, food artisans, sommeliers, baristas, brewers, educators, distillers, cookbook authors and other celebrated food + drink experts to not only celebrate food and drink but to learn and educate and share common passions about food and the many impacts on our local NC communities. It's also a chance to educate and learn about food sustainability, appreciate culinary diversity, expertise, and celebrate all things pertaining to food and drink.

Over the course of these three days there are several unique opportunities to sample food and drink through different types of events that include expert panels, lively dinners, after parties as well as sustainable classrooms with a grand finale tasting event on the Village Green at Southern Village.

Perhaps one of the most interesting events that will be happening is the opening day to kick off the TerraVita events is a panel discussion taking place at the Varsity Theatre on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill at 3-5:30pm, Thursday October 8. The theme of this year’s opening event is Culinary Capital & Building Community.  This event will include a stellar list of speakers who will be speaking about their passions and sharing more detail about their own causes and how they are doing good in the community.

This prestigious panel event for Thursday will feature Jeff Polish from The Monti as the moderator and guest speakers include:
  • Ashley Christensen, Chef & Owner, AC Restaurants
  • Margaret Gifford, Food Advocate
  • Henry Hargreaves, Photographer
  • Kat Kinsman, Editor, Tasting Table
  • Virginia Willis, Chef & Author
  • Mike Moore, Chef & Owner, The Blind Pig

Using a combination of TedX style and the visually stimulating format of Pecha Kucha the discussion will be a unique opportunity not to be missed. Half of the proceeds from this event will be divided among causes highlighted by each panelist. This panel discussion is an opportunity to hear unique perspectives presented in a very creative way about how food connects us to our local community, our health, our families and our friendships.

There are a number of events happening over the three day event and several of the sessions are almost completely full. Don't miss an unforgettable opportunity to learn and experience some fantastic sessions in the Sustainable Classroom and the After Hours parties! And the grand finale tasting event will finish the festival off with an amazing afternoon of food + drink!

I'm SUPER excited to attend this event for the first time this year! I LOVE learning and I'm in awe of the speakers, presenters and folks that are involved (and organizing) this event, especially since its all for a great cause. I'm excited to learn about sour beers, food sustainability, craft cocktails and much more! I can't wait to be inspired by industry luminaries and I love supporting local! The more I can learn the more I can share! I hope that you can join me!
