ART: Art in Bloom at NCMA

One of my favorite events last year was the NC Art Museum's Art in Bloom that premiered last Spring. It was so popular and successful that the event is back this year with almost twice as many floral masterpieces designed by many local and amazing NC artists and each is inspired by specific works of art in the museum's permanent collection.

Yesterday morning I was thrilled to be back for a sneak peek as the artists were in-house and setting up to have everything ready for a museum members party last night, kicking off the four day event. Many of them were just starting their masterpieces and were very kind to let us watch, take pictures and ask questions. And, with all the stunning fresh flowers that were being brought in you couldn't help but notice how fragrant the museum was as well! Also, because the artists have been given a specific piece of artwork to inspire them, it encourages guests to look a little longer and harder at some of the permanent artwork in the gallery. I've been there so many times and still discovered artwork new to me!

I have included some behind the scenes photos to peak interest without giving away the amazing finished products! Currently there has been an outstanding number of tickets sold, so I highly recommend getting online and picking a time to get your tickets and check out this amazing but brief exhibit that only lasts the life of the blooms! Starts today and goes through Sunday.

Be sure to vote for your favorite while you are there and also take time to visit the many outdoor gardens all around the museum's exterior including a special Bonsai exhibit, a unique display by NCSU Dept of Horticultural Science, the NC Elizabethan Gardens and Weston Farms. There will also be a Bloom market to purchase fresh flowers while they last!
