Burger joints are trending in Raleigh

Seems lately that hip new gourmet organic burgers are one of the latest things to trend in restaurants popping up in Raleigh and the Triangle area. I've spotted several recently. I haven't been to the couple of burger/sushi combo spots yet, but they are on my list to try out!!  We've eaten at BurgerFi, Bad Daddy's, Elevation and Chucks.  I have a favorite so far,  does anyone else?

Instagram Travel Thursday: NC Coast

Another fabulous thing about Raleigh is the proximity to some stunning east coast beaches. Within a couple hours drive, you can find yourself playing in the waves on some gorgeous Carolina coastal beach.

Hitting the beach in OKI

We recently spent a relaxing weekend with some great friends at their place in Oak Island, NC.  Oak Island is a very low key location and we enjoyed the beautiful, wide open beaches, sand and salty air. Sunday we headed into the town of Southport nearby. The weather and the company was amazing and we had a great time splashing in the waves, sharing a few cold beers, tasting some delicious food and plenty of great conversation.

Taking a trip doesn't always have to be across the ocean to some grand destination, sometimes a spontaneous trip to somewhere close and sharing it with good friends or family is the destination. Just getting away from it all is usually the goal and feeling like you are really living life.

Raleigh is lucky to have such amazing travel opportunities within a couple hours of leaving the city proper. Head west to the mountains or east to the beaches, we are pretty fortunate people here.

*Thanks again to our friends Marci and Paul for their friendship and hospitality!

Instagram Travel Thursday: Grand Bahama Island

Sometimes you just need to escape.

Time to fly.
In March, my mom and sisters and I did just that. We went to the quieter and more affordable of the Bahama Islands, Grand Bahama Island. We enjoyed five days of relaxing,  amazing views, eating, shopping and catching up with each other.  It always takes some planning, but it's worth it to take a moment with family and/or friends and make a memory.  One of the great things about travel is getting everyone out of their element!

FOOD TRUCK 411

Another big turnout for the Raleigh Downtown Food Truck Rodeo yesterday!

Food Trucks are gaining momentum now in the Triangle, with new laws recently allowing them in Downtown Raleigh. They provide tasty gourmet food conveniently and quickly at reasonable price points.  Many Raleigh folks have been able to sample a variety of these eats at the Raleigh Downtown Food Truck Rodeos that have occurred recently.  The general public is starting to gain awareness of them and a fondness for particular food specialties served up fast and hot from these trucks.  There is one more Food Truck Rodeo event coming up in Downtown Raleigh on October 13th. Downtown Durham features many Food Truck gathering events as well.

If you find a truck that you love, there's an easy way to follow them and find out exactly where they are at any given time and to know exactly what they are featuring! Follow them on Twitter and you can easily locate them wherever they may be parked and make a plan to go and grab a taste! The Rodeos are a lot of fun and a great way to discover many of the different trucks, but it can be a  little frustrating if you went there to specifically sample a particular truck or two and you find the lines to be quite long. Why not track them on Twitter and make it easy on yourself?

The following list is a reference to local area Food Trucks and their Twitter handles. Add them to your twitter list and you can see anytime where they are in the Triangle area.  Another thing to help find new and old favorites are to follow the local breweries on Twitter as well. They almost always have a truck or two parked outside their brew pubs most evenings. They usually announce who's at their breweries on Twitter. What's better then a local brew and a local food truck lunch or dinner? Definitely a fun and easy way to get your share of delicious food on the go!!

Click here to find out what events are going on in Raleigh and Durham that are featuring Food Trucks.

This list will continue to be updated and feel free to send in any I've missed!!
