Some Great New Shopping Headed our Way this Summer!

One of my ultimate favorite places to shop for cool, hip, affordable home furniture and accessories is West Elm. Owned by Pottery Barn, they offer lots of fun home decor at pretty good prices. I've shopped them online forever, so looking forward to having the actual store nearby.  Coming in late Summer 2012 to Streets of Southpoint.

Another favorite store that I will be happy to have the chance to go in and try things on instead of ordering online! Athleta gear is quality and fits well. Work out clothes that fit well and keep you looking stylish for running all those after workout errands! They are opening next Wednesday at Streets of Southpoint (but for those in the know, they are serving cocktails the night before!) Email athleta@carymagazine.com to RSVP.

Garage is from Canada and offers up trendy, youthful clothing at affordable prices, very similar to the H&M and Forever 21 brands. This one is coming to Crabtree Mall sometime this Summer!!

Madewell is a fabulous women's clothing store that is mostly known for their great fitting women's jeans since 1937. They offer up other great clothing selections. Fun store to shop, its very similar to J. Crew and upwards in price, but fun store to shop for deals. This one will be at Streets of Southpoint soon as well!!

Popular catalog for upscale kids clothing  Hanna Andersson is now opening up stores around the country and this new store will be opening soon at Streets of Southpoint this Summer as well!

What are you waiting for??? Get out and get shopping!!

Just in: lululemon athletica - Now Open at Streets of Southpoint along with a brand new Sperry Shoe store!!

Found!! Perfect gift for Father's Day!

Father's Day is coming up quickly...what do you get the guy who has everything??

I found the answer to that recently at Bottle Revolution. Not only is this a great gift for dad, its the gift that keeps on giving!! And what a deal. For only $89, you can sign Dad up to be an elite member to the coolest beer club in town and he will have beer available just for him, every month. Bottle Revolution will have a selection of beer (either a six pack, four pack or bomber) preselected for him to stop by and pick up. He will also get invites to exclusive samplings throughout the year. A new phone app is coming out soon for beer club members that will let them know more about their selections and beer club member happenings.

Craft beer is a hot item right now, and its especially fun to try unique brews being created from small craft beer companies nationwide. We especially love supporting our local brewers and getting out and sampling their best brews at restaurants and pubs all over the Triangle. Ted at Bottle Revolution is especially helpful and made it fun and easy to set up this great gift by including a Bottle Revolution pub glass and gift certificate for the membership. Its also a great excuse to stop in at Bottle Revolution once a month to check out their latest selections, sample some new brews that are right there on tap! Everything is sold by the bottle, so you can pick up a six pack holder, and mix and match anything that looks interesting to you. They've got cans in the fridge which are fantastic for heading out to the local pool or beach.

Bottle Revolution is a fairly new bottle shop, located on Lake Boone Trail near Rex Hospital and just off the 440 beltline. Their address is 4025 Lake Boone Trail Raleigh, NC 27607.

You can stay caught up on what's happening by following their Facebook page or on Twitter @BtlRev.

If you are into great deals, today's specialty brews go for $8.99 and up easily. Do the math. This membership couldn't be a better deal for a year's worth of beer. Go ahead. Broaden dad's beer horizons....don't settle for the tie or golf balls this year, get him some BEER!

New Kid on the Block - Oro Restaurant

We celebrated a birthday last Saturday night with dinner out downtown Raleigh. We decided to try out one of the newest restaurants on the block, Oro Restaurant located in the RBC Plaza building at the corner of Martin and Wilmington Streets. The restaurant has a tapas theme, serving lots of different options on small plates. Even the entrees are served in small portions but allowed us to order and try many different things. And we did!!
Some of the small plate apps we tried first were the truffle mac and cheese, fried soft shell crab, shrimp dumplings, veggie spring rolls, three bean cake and red and golden beet salad. Standouts were the soft shell crab, spring rolls, three bean cake and beet salad.

The beet salad was served with goat cheese and watermelon which was a refreshing and tasty combination and the three bean cake was crispy and delicious. We had a group of six (including two tweens). The kids favorite was the meatball flat bread, dumplings (new food for them!) and peanut sauce covered chicken skewers. They weren't thrilled with the mac and cheese though and that probably wasn't one of my favorites either. For   mains we tried, sizzling catfish with crispy rice and black bean sauce (very tasty!), braised pork, and filet mignon. The filet was the right portion and the sake brine and crispy onion rings were just the right addition.

Service was good but felt like they were still working things out. Sometimes there seemed to be more wait staff then guests circling around, but all very attentive. I think since they are still so new, this will all work itself out over time. They are high tech as well, using iPads to take our orders.  Atmosphere is great and offers a nice street view from both levels of the restaurant. Open, light and airy and I personally love the all white decor and modern simple elegance. LOVE the fact that the only beers on tap were local drafts. Plenty of wine and drink options as well. The place was full by the time we left.

Will we be back? More then likely we will be back to Oro. Great to have some cool, modern places like this that make you think "big city".
